Why do I like CrossFit? It's like a new near-death experience every day. How close can we come to killing ourselves in this hour without actually getting hurt, so we can do it again tomorrow? (I'm kidding! The coaches keep us safe!) CrossFit challenges me in a way no other exercise experience ever has. It pushes me to be my best even after the workout. I'm kicking myself for the rest of the day if I do not get enough sleep, or if my nutrition is off I feel it.
I've never been a morning person, but even on rest days I wake up at 5:30 and have to make myself not get dressed because it is calling me (and I might miss out on something fun, or someone funny - everyone is so nice). My brain loves the chemical rush and the confidence it gives me to be able to handle any physical and mental challenges that come up during the rest of the day.
I'm now one of those women who can carry all of the groceries in one trip. I can fill the five gallon chicken water and easily carry it from spout to coop. I can run (slowly, ever so slowly, on flat surfaces) for 40 minutes without stopping. I can hike up a mountain, and when my grown children are complaining that their lungs feel like they've been lifelong smokers or have suddenly contracted asthma, I'm enjoying the scenery. And muscles, so many new muscles. I'm in the best shape of my life at age 47...it's an amazing gift.
